Common Core Tip Tuesday

Stutelage Innovations is happy to welcome the Work Wives as our newest Guest Bloggers!  These incredible ladies have so much to offer educators and parents.  They have worked tirelessly to unpack the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and they will be offering our readers a CCSS tip each month.  To learn more about the Work Wives, click here!

Be a Facilitator of the Learning Rather Than the Lecturer

It is so important to give yourself and the students the freedom to learn. The Common Core Standards (CCS) allows us all to use multiple facets to solve a problem, reach a conclusion and soak up information. The CCS push the classroom teacher to present learning that accompanies direct work to follow. No longer are the days where teacher talks, student sits with a blank stare and might be listening then the bell rings and the period is over. Students are expected to explain, explore, discover and make connections throughout their entire day and across every subject area. To witness some great teaching models visit teachingchannel.org. The videos on this site are REAL teachers…teaching…in real classrooms…using Common Core!  You’re welcome :o) The videos have a guide along the right side of the screen with lesson objectives, questions to consider while watching and the Common Core Standard that is being addressed. There is also a tab for your own notes. Our tip this month is to enjoy this site and realize that you too can present learning in an interactive purposeful way (better yet, you may even discover that you facilitate learning rather than just lecture already!)
