StoryStars is designed to help children take an interest in books and literature at an early age. With our enjoyable and fun themes each week, children see how exciting reading can be! Each week will focus on age-appropriate literary skills while incorporating art, science, math and cooperative learning into the lessons. We will add to our Word Wall each week and children can continue to practice these skills at home with the provided materials. Every child can learn to love stories, and our theme, as always, is Having Fun…One Book at a Time!

March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 31st
9:30am – 12:00pm
Ages: 2-4

1-Bedtime

Frances doesn’t like bedtime! We will write some of her excuse words on our word wall and write our own sentences about what an excuse is. Students get to paint a bedtime Frances for their room and make a math graph counting Frances’ excuses.

ELA: Bedtime For Frances by Russell Hoban
Writing: Sentence Start – What is an Excuse?
Art: Painting Frances
Math: Counting Frances’ excuses

2-Bedtime

Our storytime book helps children to conquer the fear of sleeping over at their grandparent’s house. Students will write what makes them nervous and then we will toss those fears away with our jitterbug jar! Children will decorate their own pillow covers for a sleepover and then get to play a pillow punt game to end the morning.

ELA: What! Cried Granny by Kate Lum
Writing: What Makes You Nervous?
Art: Decorate a Pillow
Cooperative Learning: Pillow Punt

3-Bedtime

This week children will explore the world of construction and make their very own truck. We will learn about the moon and explore why it comes it out and night. Our word wall will continue to grow as we add bedtime words to our sight word list.

ELA: Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker
Writing: Goodnight Words
Art: Construct a Truck
Science: Noodle Time – When Does the Moon Come Out?

4-Bedtime

ELA: Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
Writing: Pajama Word Cards
Art: Sleeping Bag Painting
Cooperative Learning: Pajama Party

Wear your pjs because we are having a pajama party! We will read a classic bedtime story and then make pajama word cards. After making a sleeping bag painting, children will enjoy some homemade pj party snacks!
